MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A St. Paul man has been charged with attempted murder and assault after allegedly shooting a man in the chest early Wednesday morning at a West St. Paul bar, police said.

Police responded to the shooting at Cherokee Tavern, located at 886 Smith Ave. South, at 2:15 a.m. When they arrived, they found a 29-year-old St. Paul man with a bullet wound in his chest. The suspect, however, had fled the scene.

On Thursday, police indentified the suspect as 25-year-old Stanaley Yoeum. That night, police went to his home, located on the 800 block of Hubbard Street, where they tried to arrest Yoeum. But Yoeum wouldn’t leave his home or come to his door.

Police said they talked to Yoeum on the phone, but again he refused to leave his home, saying that he would have a shoot out with police if they entered.

The St. Paul Critical Incident Response Team then began negotiations with Yoeum, who eventually came out of his home and into custody.

The Dakota County Attorney’s Office charged Yoeum Friday with one count of second-degree attempted murder, one count of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree assault. Yoeum is currently in the Dakota County Jail.

The condition of the 29-year-old victim is not yet known.
