Senator: Vikings Should Talk Minneapolis Stadium

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — An influential state senator says the Minnesota Vikings should negotiate with Minneapolis leaders who want a new stadium built in their downtown, despite the team’s desire to build in a suburb north of St. Paul.

Two state Senate committees took testimony Tuesday on the team’s push for a publicly financed stadium. The Vikings and Ramsey County leaders touted Arden Hills, but Minneapolis leaders say three possible Minneapolis sites are cheaper and that the city could be a financial partner with an existing local sales tax.

Mayor R.T. Rybak says all that’s missing is the team’s willingness to consider Minneapolis.

Sen. Julianne Ortman told Vikings officials to help Minneapolis narrow its choices. She says that would make it easier for lawmakers to choose between Arden Hills and Minneapolis.
