MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The head of the FBI in Minneapolis is retiring after 20 years with the bureau.
Special Agent in Charge Don Oswald tells The Associated Press that leaving is hard, but he has always had aspirations of being a judge. He plans to return to practicing law in south Florida and eventually campaign for a spot on the bench.
Oswald has been overseeing the FBI’s operations in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota since last May. His last day is May 2.
During his tenure, the local FBI office continued to work with Minnesota’s Somali community because of potential connections with al-Shabab in Somalia. He says agents also worked to ward off economic espionage.
Chris Warrener is coming from FBI headquarters to replace Oswald. He’s expected to arrive in Minnesota this summer.
