ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A top Republican says a confidential legal arrangement in the Minnesota Senate is costing taxpayers $200 to $300 an hour stemming from a high-level scandal involving the former majority leader.
Current Senate Majority Leader David Senjem offered the first glimpse of financial exposure in the case Friday, although he and others continue to refuse public access to a private attorney’s billing plans. Minneapolis attorney Dayle Nolan is handling legal matters related to former leader Amy Koch’s extramarital affair with a top aide, who has threatened to sue the Senate over his firing.
Senjem was pressed by Democratic Sen. Ann Rest to make details public. Senjem later told reporters that the hourly rate was up to $300 per hour.
Senjem and other Senate officials contend they aren’t required to disclose details.
