MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man in northwestern Minnesota had to have part of his left thumb amputated Saturday after accidentally shooting himself with a firearm, according to the Ottertail County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities were notified of the incident by the Tri-County Hospital in Wadena. The Ottertail County Sheriff’s Office said what led up to the accident is still under investigation, but that he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He suffered an apparent hand injury and had to have a partial amputation of his left thumb, authorities said.
Authorities said it’s unknown how the injury happened as the man’s hand was not near the muzzle of the firearm when he was shooting the gun.
