MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) –- Authorities have identified the 19-year-old St. Paul man who was killed after apparently running himself over on the Mendota Bridge.
The incident happened at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday on the bridge in Mendota Heights.
The State Patrol said Medard E. Prosper was driving eastbound on Highway 55 when one of his tires blew out.
He continued driving a short distance, then tried to exit from the moving vehicle, authorities said.
The State Patrol said Proper opened his car door and his foot somehow got caught on the vehicle. He fell onto a traffic lane and was then run over by the back of the car — a 1998 Nissan Maxima — as he was trying to get out of the moving vehicle.
Authorities said it wasn’t clear if the male was trying to pull the vehicle over or why his foot would have been outside the door before it got trapped.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 55 were closed for a brief time while the accident was being investigated.
