MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A Minneapolis police officer was shot in the lower part of his body during an arrest Friday night, according to police.
Inspector Mike Martin of the Minneapolis Police says shortly before 10 p.m., police assisting the Department of Corrections on a fugitive warrant pulled up to a house on a 1600 block of Ilion Ave. N. Soon after, a suspect ran from the back of the house and two pit bulls charged police.
Officers opened fire at the pit bulls, resulting in one dead. During the shooting, one veteran officer suffered a gunshot wound to his lower body, Martin said.
That officer was taken to the North Memorial hospital and his or her identity will be released later.
Police apprehended the suspect shortly after.
