ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton says the Minnesota Vikings stadium proposal is hung up at the Capitol largely over opposition from charitable gambling operators whose games may cover about big part of the billion-dollar project.
Stadium backers including Dayton continued Thursday to hope for a stadium hearing in the House. But the House Commerce Committee chairman says he won’t proceed until charities are comfortable with the proposal.
Charitable organizations believe the state’s taxes on their gambling operations are too high. They want more money for tax relief and a simpler system than they’ve been offered in the stadium deal so far.
Many charities pay more in taxes than they make in profit.
