SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (AP) — Police in Connecticut have searched the home of a high school classmate of Minnesota Twins pitcher Carl Pavano while investigating an alleged extortion attempt against Pavano.
A search warrant affidavit obtained by the Record-Journal of Meriden on Wednesday says Pavano’s family told police that 36-year-old Christian Bedard of Southington tried to extort money and a luxury SUV from Pavano by threatening to publicly reveal a three-year “emotional and physical relationship” the two had while attending Southington High School.
Southington police seized a laptop and journal from Bedard’s home last week, but have not charged him.
Pavano’s sister, Michelle DeGennaro says Bedard’s claims about a relationship with her brother are false.
Pavano’s agent and the Twins didn’t return messages left by the newspaper.
