MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A man who quit as an editor of a Minnesota weekly newspaper amid plagiarism allegations says he’s out of the newspaper business.
Jon Flatland resigned last week as interim managing editor of The Times of Blooming Prairie after a humor columnist in Singapore accused him of plagiarizing his columns and those of others. Asked Thursday whether he committed plagiarism, Flatland said “apparently I did.” But he says he didn’t commit as much as he’s accused of.
Times Publisher Rick Bussler says Flatland quit before he could fire him. He says Flatland worked for him for only about four months but came with impressive credentials as a former owner of newspapers in North Dakota and former president of the North Dakota Newspaper Association. Bussler published an apology to readers this week.
