ST. PAUL (WCCO) — An architecture firm has been selected to design the Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial, planned for the State Capitol grounds.
Leo A Daly will provide the design, management and cost estimates for the memorial that will honor Minnesota firefighters killed in the line of duty.
The memorial is approximately 6,000-square-feet that features a landscaped garden and paved assembly area. Construction of the memorial will be around $500,000, which was completely funded by Minnesota firefighters.
The bronze sculpture of a firefighter rescuing a child — previously on display at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport — will be the focal point of the memorial. The names of all Minnesota fallen firefighters will be inscribed in columns of a large monolith.
A wall with the names of all 791 fire departments throughout the state will also be included in the memorial.
Construction will begin in May and be completed by September.
