MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Some quick thinking neighbors who helped to save two children from a burning home in St. Paul were honored Saturday.
The fire on Feb. 9 at a duplex on Marion Street was intentionally set. A 4-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl were trapped with their mother and her friend inside.
In all, six neighbors came to the rescue by pulling out a mattress so the mother could drop the children from the window.
The St. Paul Fire Chief gave letters of commendations to the heroes — Walter Acosta and his wife, Maria and son, Jessie; Greg Ostenson and his wife, Amber; and Maureen Barrett.
