ST. PAUL (WCCO) – A number of streets were closed in a St. Paul neighborhood Tuesday afternoon as police were involved in a standoff with a man inside a car.

According to police, a family member contacted officers asking them to check on the man’s welfare. At about noon, police responded to the Railroad Island neighborhood near the intersection of Desoto Street and Minnehaha Avenue, where they found the man inside a car.

The man refused to leave the vehicle, claiming that he had booby-trapped the car with explosives and a shotgun.

Officers dispatched a crisis response team and were still in communication with the man as of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Officers said the man doesn’t appear despondent or aggressive, but has refused to leave the vehicle.
