FOLEY, Minn. (WCCO) – A mother and her 4-year-old daughter were rescued after the car they were in rolled and landed on its roof in a Benton County creek.

According to the county sheriff’s office, the rollover happened at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday along Benton County Road 2 just west of Benton Beach Campground.

The car landed upside down in about 2 or 3 feet of water. Twenty-six-year-old Gretchen Wolbeck, of Rice, and her 4-year-old daughter were trapped inside.

According to the sheriff’s office, two witnesses went to their rescue. They used a piece of lumber to break open a car window and retrieve Wolbeck and her daughter.

Both were taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The State Patrol and the Rice Rescue Squad assisted Benton County deputies at the scene of the crash.
