MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Many people in Minneapolis didn’t wait for the Martin Luther King holiday to honor the slain civil rights leader.
A breakfast was held Saturday at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College. WCCO-TV’s Reg Chapman was the master of ceremonies at the event. People attending the breakfast then went out and volunteered in the community.
Jan Callison, who attended the breakfast and signed up to volunteer, said she was excited to help a community she didn’t know very well.
“I think it’s really important that we support our young people,” she said. “I think it’s really important that we get them off to a good start.”
More than 380 signed up to volunteer at 18 different nonprofits across the metro.
